Are You Afraid?
Fear has always been a part of people's lives since the fall. Fear is more relevant than ever today with the Coronavirus sweeping the nation and the world. People are afraid; the world was thrown into chaos when the virus left China. We can see examples of mass hysteria all around us. A prime example is the mass buying of toilet paper and N95 masks. Grocery stores are struggling to keep the shelves stocked and medical personnel are scrounging for sanitation supplies. This is all thanks to fear. It is not irrational to fear the virus, but it is completely irrational to let that fear control us.
Fear is not always a bad thing, we are after all called to fear God. Ecclesiastes 12:13 states "...Fear God and keep his commandments for this is the duty of all mankind." So we know that we should fear God, that is a fear we should have. The Bible also tells us that we should trust in the Lord because He is always with us. Joshua 1:9 tells us this exact thing, "Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the LORD your God will be with you wherever you go." Many other verses tell the same story, Psalm 23:4, Psalm 34:4, Psalm 94:19, Psalm 27:1, Psalm 115:11, and many more.
The lesson to learn from this is that we should not fear the Coronavirus. The worst thing it can do is end our time on earth, but this would only bring us to Christ in heaven. We must trust in the Lord and that He will keep us healthy and safe. Whenever you feel afraid just pray and ask for strength, courage, and peace. Remember, God is always watching over you, and don't forget to wash your hands.
